DVLA Code Challenge Competition Rules

DVLA Code Challenge Competition (the Competition) 

We have a few rules (these Rules) which you’ll need to know and follow when you enter this competition run by us, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, Longview Road, Swansea, SA6 7JL (DVLA)

These Rules include details about how to enter the Competition, opening and closing dates, prize details, and anything else DVLA thinks you may need to know about entering the Competition. These Rules will apply to the Competition and by entering the Competition, you promise to follow and be bound by these Rules (which may be amended or varied at any time by DVLA with or without notice) and by DVLA’s decisions, which are final in all matters relating to these Rules, the Competition, the draw and/or the results and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into.

PARENTAL CONSENT 

1. Before you enter the Competition, all schools, clubs and groups must get the parent’s/guardian’s permission for any child to join a team entering the Competition. 

WHO CAN ENTER?

2. Only schools, clubs and groups working with children aged 11 years or under based in Wales are eligible to enter the Competition. Any entry that does not have an address in Wales will not be valid. 

3. There are no restrictions to children or adults whose parents/guardians or family members are employees of DVLA, or any other company associated with the Competition.

PROMOTION PERIOD

4. The Competition opens at 00.00am on 12/06/2017 (the Opening Date) and will close at 11.59pm on 06/10/2017 (the Closing Date). The period between the Opening Date and the Closing Date is referred to in these Rules as the Promotion Period. 

HOW TO ENTER

5. To enter the Competition, the school, club or groups will need to do the following;

  • Go to the web site at http://dvlacodechallenge.dvla.gov.uk and download the competition information.
  • Get parent’s/guardian’s consent for each team member.
  • Choose the theme you want to create a game for, you can select more than one theme if you want to but you can only submit one entry per theme. If multiple entries for the same are submitted by the same the school, club or group, the first entry received will go into the competition all other entries for that theme will be discarded. 
  • Build your game in scratch, create a short team video (no longer that 3 minutes) describing what your game is about and how you made it.
  • Go to the web site at http://dvlacodechallenge.dvla.gov.uk and download and complete the entry form for your team and return it with your competition entry to dvlacodechallenge@digital.dvla.gov.uk before the closing date.
  • Entries received outside the Promotion Period will not be valid. DVLA is not responsible if your Entry gets lost, delayed, misdirected, undelivered, damaged or if you have technical problems trying to enter the Competition. 
     

WINNER SELECTION

6. All valid entries will be judged by Code Club who will provide a shortlist of five (5) finalists to go through to the Competition Final. The decision of Code Club is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the selection of the Finalists.

7. The Finalists will be notified no later than 3:30 PM on 06/11/2017.

8. DVLA has the right to choose an alternate Finalist if: 

  • DVLA cannot contact a Finalist or 
  • A Finalist’s parents/guardians do not:
    • Agree to these rules
    • Want the Finalist to receive the prize
    • Give their consent as may be requested by DVLA within a reasonable time. 

9. The Final will be held at The Richard Ley Development Centre in Swansea on the 28th November 2017 at 10:00 AM. The event address is;

10. Where possible DVLA will provide transport for the Finalists to and from the venue in Swansea and the School, Club or Group address. 

11. Each team will showcase their entry to a panel of special guest judges. The best entries will receive a prize and a Certificate. The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the selection of the winners.

12. Prizes will be awarded on the day.

THE COMPETITION PRIZES

13. There is one (1) first prize, one (1) second prize and one (1) third prize to be won in the Competition and two (2) runner-up prizes. 

14. The prizes are set out below and all prizes except where stated will be for the school, club or group that entered the competition

15. The prizes are as stated and cannot be exchanged or transferred. No cash alternatives will be offered. 

THE PRIZE DRAW

16. There is a prize draw to win IT Equipment for schools, clubs and groups. To enter the prize draw one of the following must apply. Your School, Club or Group has;

Made a valid entry into the competition and are not one of the five finalists.
Booked a ticket for your School, Club or Group to attend the Judging Day event to be held in The Richard Ley Development Centre (RLDC) Swansea and have been present on the day.  The event address is;

Booked a ticket for your School, Club or Group to participate in the Judging Day event via web stream or video conference and have been present.

18. The number of prizes and value of each will be determined before the closing date of the competition.

19. The draw will take place during the Finalist event day. 

PRIZES AND PRIZE DRAW

20. If DVLA or any third party prize provider is unable to provide the prizes or any part thereof, DVLA has the right to award a substitute prize of equal or greater value. The prizes may be subject to additional terms and conditions of the manufacturer or supplier. 

21. DVLA reserves the right to cancel this Competition at any stage or to shorten the time for entering the Competition during the Promotion Period, if DVLA thinks it is necessary in its reasonable opinion, or if circumstances arise which are out of DVLA’s control. If the time for entering the Competition is cut short during the Promotion Period, the winners shall be selected in accordance with these Rules from all eligible entries received prior to such termination date. 

22. Events may occur that render the awarding of the prizes (or any part thereof) impossible due to reasons beyond the reasonable control of DVLA. DVLA will not be liable or responsible for any loss or damage suffered by the Finalists, Winners of the competition or Prize Draw winners should they not receive the prizes (or any part thereof) as a result of any such event. In particular, DVLA shall have no obligation to substitute any alternative prize, cash equivalent or provide any other compensation. 

23. If your prize includes vouchers DVLA will provide IT gift vouchers solely for the purchase of IT equipment for your school/club/organisation which cannot be exchanged/transferred onwards for cash. 
The winners will need to provide DVLA with evidence for all goods purchased out of the prize vouchers (a receipt), within 30 days of your purchase. 
When you utilise the vouchers to purchase the kit, your rights under Warranty and the Consumer Rights Act 2015, will reside between you and the IT kit provider.
For avoidance of doubt, DVLA is not liable for any loss, damages or personal injury resulting from the purchases via the vouchers. Liability in these circumstances resides with the provider of the kit.

24. If your prize includea IT Equipment, DVLA will provide kit as part of the Prize Draw which has been donated by sponsors of the competition.
You will be asked to confirm receipt of the kit on the day it is received, and confirm that it is in good working order within 5 working days. If this is unachievable, you should advise DVLA immediately.
The date you confirm receipt will act as the commencement of the warranty period.
Should you experience any issues which are covered under Warranty or the Consumer Rights Act 2015, these will be managed by DVLA with the supplier who has donated the kit.
For avoidance of doubt, DVLA is not liable for any loss, damages or personal injury resulting from the kit provided. Liability in these circumstances resides with the provider of the kit.

GENERAL

25. All changes to the Rules will be posted in revised terms and conditions at http://dvlacodechallenge.dvla.gov.uk

26. By entering the competition you agree that all entries can be used, changed or distributed at no cost, either now or in the future, by any individual or organisation that wishes to do so.
 
27. DVLA will not be liable to you for any delays or failure (whether in whole or in part) in carrying out its obligations in respect of the Competition due to circumstances beyond DVLA’s reasonable control. You will be solely responsible for any costs incurred by you as a result of such delays and/or failures. 

28. DVLA will not be liable to you for any loss, damage or personal injury however it was caused (including without limitation in contract, tort or statutory duty) in connection with the Competition and/or prizes.
 
29. By entering this Competition you agree that you, as the team leader, have obtained parents/guardians consent that DVLA may use, in any and all media both now and in the future as DVLA in its sole opinion sees fit, photographs and/or recordings of the team and any statement made by the team members, and the team entry to the Competition without payment or further consent if you are declared a finalist.
